The Co-op's Savvy Shopper offers recipes, nutrition tips, and food information tidbits based on the money-saving specials offered each week. Here are some ideas and suggestions about how to use the items on special this week.


Glorious Fresh Fruit!

Enjoy the refreshing flavor of all your favorite fruits in a delicious salad. Use any combination that pleases you! Try this easy dressing, too.

1/4 cup non-fat sour cream

1 cup non-fat cottage cheese

1 cup lowfat yogurt

2 Tbs. honey

2 tsp. lime juice

6 – 8 cups cut fruit, any combination of apples, honeydew, kiwi, red or green grapes, watermelon, pineapple, blueberries, bananas, plums, cantaloupe, etc.


Combine sour cream, cottage cheese, and yogurt. Blend in honey and lime juice. Pour dressing over individual servings of fruit salad.

Quick Dinners

Rushing into the Co-op from work, thinking about what to grab for dinner? A quick trip to the meat, produce, and frozen food departments, and you’re on your way! Cut up the fruit while the shish kabobs are cooking on the grill.

• Beef Shish Kabobs, ready to go from the Co-op Meat Department

• Sautéed Zucchini - sauté sliced zucchini in a small amount of olive oil. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese

• Fresh Fruit Salad

• Frozen Yogurt with Chocolate Syrup or Raspberry Sauce
