What's New?

New Product News

The holidays are almost here and the Co-op is ready! Starting in early November, you will be able to feast your eyes and tempt your taste buds with a wide array of specialty and gourmet holiday foods and gifts. In addition to the customary Bahlsen and Lazzaroni imported cookies, Lindt and Reber Mozart chocolates, and Walker plum puddings; you will find many new items including Salem Baking Company’s Moravian Cookies, Paluani festive cakes, and Di Camillo Bakery’s panettone and biscotti assortments in the most gorgeous decorative tins you have ever seen.

New to our Bulk Foods Department are Reed’s Crystallized Ginger Baking Bits. Small bits of Reed’s crystallized ginger are a great way to add a little ginger zing to your home baked apple pies, quick breads, and cookies. You will find this item bagged and stocked near the Bulk Department’s other crystallized ginger.

Lake Champlain Chocolates holiday selections are here! Notice the attractive new fall packaging on their seasonal gift boxes – the 18 piece Chocolates of Vermont, the 15 piece Chocolate Collection, and the 5 piece Truffle Assortment. Also available are Chocolate Medallions, Caramel Leaves, Praline Pumpkins, and novelty small and large Chocolate Turkeys. As usual, we will have our regular selection of Lake Champlain Chocolates on hand to satisfy your special gift and personal chocoholic cravings.

An immediate success in both our stores, Miss Meringue’s Cookies have been flying off their specialty rack. The light and delicate meringue "drop" cookies are available in flavorful pastels including Chocolate, Chocolate Chip, Vanilla, Strawberry, Cappuccino, and Mint Chocolate Chip. And, they are either low fat or fat free!

On the savory side, try two new products from Italy: Il Trullo Bocconcini Italian Crackers and Dolce Bonta Taroli Italian Pretzels. Bocconcini are hand made, baked mini bread sticks that are a perfect snack or topping for soup or salad. Made with all natural ingredients including extra virgin olive oil, Bocconcini come in three flavors typical of Mediterranean cuisine: Garlic Parsley, Tomato Basil, and Sicilian. Crunchy Italian pretzels come in five flavors: Olive Oil, Rosemary, Fennel, Pepperoncino, and Pizza. A sixth flavor, Sugar, is only available seasonally and will be carried at the Co-op during the holidays.

If you enjoy giving gifts from local producers, consider Vermont Gold Salad Dressings and Vinaigrettes. Distinctive, all natural salad dressings and vinaigrettes from Vermont Gold include four dressings (Poppyseed Peppercorn, Roasted Garlic Caesar, Herb Parmesan, Maple Dijon) and three vinaigrettes (Red Raspberry, Aged Balsamic, and Sundried Tomato).

Locally grown and produced holiday decorations abound in the Floral Departments. Look for potted florist mums and Asiatic lilies from Talking Well Farm; poinsettias and ornamental pepper plants from Cottonstone Farm; and wreaths and garland from Tathum Farm. This year, our Christmas trees are coming from Nichol’s Tree Farm in Lyme, New Hampshire. And don’t forget to decorate the holiday table with our wonderful gourd and pumpkin centerpieces and blooming paperwhites.

Clementines are special enough to give for gifts, and their season starts in November. In addition, our Produce Departments will be receiving succulent new citrus crops including Florida navel oranges, Florida grapefruit, and California navel oranges. They’re also well-stocked with holiday specialties such as nuts, candied fruits, dates, and dried figs.

Interesting new beers from Unibroue in Quebec, Canada make wonderful meal accompaniments, and our Beverage Department staff can help you pair them up with the appropriate foods. Try La Trois Pistoles, Fin du Monde, La Maudite, and the white beer La Blanche de Chambly.
