Organic on a budget:
ten foods to consider buying as organically-raised.

For those who wish to make a gradual change toward eating more organic foods, a list published by the non-profit organization Mothers and Others for a Liveable Planet may be of assistance.

While their focus is primarily on the healthy development of children, most of these foods are basic to a healthy diet regardless of age.

Recommended items to seriously consider buying as organically raised:

1. baby food

2. rice

3. strawberries

4. grains of all types – oats, wheat, millet, quinoa, barley, couscous, amaranth, and spelt

5. milk

6. corn

7. bananas

8. green beans

9. peaches

10. apples

In season, the Co-op carries an organic version of all of these foods. In the case of fruit and vegetables, when an organic option is not available, choose produce that is locally grown.
