the current birdie newsletter - November 24

Birdie archive

Good Day!

The Free Electronic newsletter of the Five Towns (Rochester, Hancock, Granville, Stockbridge and Pittsfield) and our Vermont neighbors! We call the newsletter 'Birdie' - inspired by our logo for the Clovis Point Internet Office Space, featuring Vermont's chatty bird, the barn swallow. Clovis Point Internet Office Space - your "home office" away from home!

Why an electronic newsletter?

I need one. I need a way to tell you what's going on at Clovis Point Internet Office Space.

I want to know what's going on - I am involved in a lot of groups, but I KNOW there are more things going on, in school and church and community organizations, and I'd like to hear about them, in addition to what I can see in the weekly or monthly papers (Herald of Randolph, Rutland Herald, RockeTimes or church newsletters)

What should I send in?
Send me anything you'd like to see, and I'll publish it. Here's a list of what I'D like to read about:
recipes
new babies
original stories
poems
scores of high school games
upcoming concerts, auditions
that business you’ve never started
ADS – Yes, we print them, too. Nothing fancy.

How do I subscribe?

FROM HEATHER AND MICKEY

Okay - a few personal requests from Heather and Mickey - and I know, I
know, this thing gets long - but ya know, there's so much stuff to TALK
about!!I really only write up what you send me - and what I hear about -
and what I personally am involved in - or what Martha Slater writes up -
[I didn't dare add all the stuff she wrote up this week in THE HERALD OF
RANDOLPH - would you please take a look at last week's issue? It was a
great one! I'm taking all those pie recipes to Kentucky with me for
Thanksgiving!] Thanks for your generous good will and support - we love
ya!

1. Anybody feel particularly strong about giving pills to cats? Mickey and
I are going to be away over Thanksgiving - we can usually talk some of our
friends into feeding cats, but we are hoping to find a good piller - apply
within.

2. Sometime around the 4th of July (!), we misplaced our blue fiberglass 6
foot ladder - did we loan it to any of you? Just been wrackin' our brains,
here, and not coming up with anything.

3. I offered to help do the refreshments for a wonderful dramatic reading
of 'A Child's Christmas in Wales', which will be at the Rochester
Federated Church December 21. Will you keep me in mind when you crank out
your Christmas cookies? I'd love to offer an assortment at the
performance.

4. And LAST but definitely NOT LEAST - the Women's Alliance of the
Rochester Federated Church invites you to come SMELL the wonderful balsam
scent of the holiday. We will be decorating 150 beautiful wreaths made for
us up in northern Vermont. The assembly takes place the Wednesday and
Thursday after Thanksgiving - Dec 4 and 5, starting at 9 am and continuing
til 9 pm Wednesday - we wrap up in the early afternoon on Thursday. It is
SO much fun, smells fantastic - we do it all with hot glue guns, and lots
of good cheer. Please stop in and visit, cheer us on - we also need a
clean-up crew, if you'd like to take home a bag of balsam needles -
starting around 12 noon on Thursday. Thank you!

BIRDIE SHOPPER (a.k.a. BIRDIE-BAY!)
So I'm listening to our friend Bill Zucca, and his suggestion to really
start up a FOR SALE and WANT TO BUY section! So here goes - this is our
first ad, and Linda doesn't yet know what I'm charging. Actually, I'm
still not charging anything - but I am going to see if you all would
support this effort: All listing are free up till January 1. (including
Linda's ad). Starting January 1, we'll ask 1% of the sale ($1 a listing
for items under $10). I'll keep telling you how much we're raising, and
then we'll spend it on some community effort, like bringing in the
bagpipers for 4th of July, or helping to buy drums for kids for our new
PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE. It's painless, easy for us all, I'll track and report
on all funds raised, and we'll all have a great time!!

Heather, can you put this ad in Birdie for me ? I don't really know if it
is allowed as I am a computer dinosaur. Let me know what I owe you for the
ad if you put it in.
Thanks, Linda

CYCLE OF EMPOWERMENT BOOKS ARE HERE!
Thanks to all who came, laughed, cheered and pondered during DOM
FAMULARO's visit! Here's a conversation with a friend:
"Did Dom leave any books here to be sold or do I have to order it from the
web site at this point? After we left last night my husband said, "That
would be a good book to read" ('Cycle of Empowerment'). Of course if I
order it from the web site I will have to pay postage now, so that is why
I am asking."
Thanks, K.

---and Mickey writes back:
"We still have copies of both Dom's books... we're not going to ship them
back for a while, so that people have a chance to do just what you want to
do. Come on down to the office any time.
Thank you so much for bringing your son to the master class, and for
staying yourself. I hope you had fun. I am getting pretty serious about
starting a drum corps in Rochester, so he has something to look forward
to, if he's interested."

---- and the reply:
"Thanks. Please save me one of the Empowerment books. I'll try to stop
by soon to pick it up. Keep me informed on the drum corps thing."
Books by Dom Famularo, international drum clinician - "It's Your Move" for
$20

SUSTAINABLE VOICES
Heather--here is the announcement for Birdie for the Voices meeting.
Thanks--Nancy Manning

COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO SUPPORT SUSTAINABILITY PROJECTS AT
ROCHESTER SCHOOL

VOICES is an organization in White River Valley that promotes
sustainability. They are partnering with several teachers at Rochester
School to recycle papers and compost food wastes. VOICES invites anyone
interested in helping to attend a planning meeting. It is on Tuesday,
December 3, from 7-8 pm. It will be held in the new conference room of
Rochester Elementary School.

VOICES is the group that organized May's Green Up Day for Rochester. At
their last meeting in June, VOICES decided to focus on projects that
promote recycling and composting at Rochester School. We have some
enthusiastic teachers, both in the elementary and middle schools, who need
help in order to have success with their growing recycling and composting
projects.

VOICES is looking for volunteers who will help plan how to effectively
support the paper recycling and food composting projects at Rochester
School for the school year 2002-2003. Please come to the planning meeting
if you have any information, materials, equipment, or energy to help us
with either project. Volunteers are needed for educating the students and
the community; setting up either project; and for the daily, weekly, or
monthly management of the projects. Committees will be formed to work on
the different projects.

Make a difference to White River Valley and to our community of Rochester.
Come Tuesday, December 3 at 7pm to see how you may be able to help. There
will be a follow-up meeting on Tuesday, January 7, 2003 from 7-8 pm. If
you have any questions, please contact Nancy Manning at 767-3161,
extension 3113, or e-mail atnemanning@yahoo.com. VOICES hopes to see you there!
