I firmly believe that it’s past time to deliver on
health care, and I will make it a core issue in my campaign.
In the coming weeks and months I will be attending many
meetings on health care around Vermont, both to talk and
to listen, and where it is useful I will call meetings of
my own. I will also post materials here on this website
which lay out my views, as well as background material from
other sources that can help people understand the complex
issues of contemporary health care.
My own current thinking is summarized in the Health
Care Statement which you can find here.
I have also included a background paper which I find quite
valuable, called Universal
Health Care for Dummies. It is written
by John Franco, a distinguished Burlington attorney who
I am proud to count as one of my supporters. When I first
introduced a universal health care bill in the Senate in
1991, John helped to develop the proposal. Today he
is one of a handful of my key advisers on health care. The
facts he has assembled are useful to inform all of us, and
should serve us well as we begin a serious dialogue on universal
health care in the State of Vermont. John's paper can be
found here.
As always, I will also welcome your comments on the many
issues of health care.
